How to use the topic index

The topic index is a different way of exploring the material. Rather than working through modules from start to finish, it allows you to go directly to the subject areas that are most relevant to you and your practice.

The index covers 15 topics, developed in response to the most frequently requested subjects identified by professionals working with refugees and asylum seekers. These include areas such as engagement, stabilisation and resourcing, cross-cultural working,trauma and PTSD, working with interpreters, and guidance for specific professional roles.

How it works

Each topic has its own ‘module’ area. This is either a page or set of pages that will give you a brief overview of the subject, explain why it matters in this context, and signpost you to the relevant content across both courses, so you can find what you need without searching through individual modules.

To explore a topic, simply choose it from the menu and click through to its page.

Who is this for?

The topic index is particularly useful if you are short on time and need to find specific guidance quickly, if you have already completed one or both courses and want to revisit a particular subject, or if you are looking to point a colleague towards a specific area of content.

If you are completely new to this area of work, we recommend starting with Course 1 - Understanding Refugee and Asylum Seeker Mental Health and Wellbeing - to build a solid foundation before using the index to explore further.
