Mouth care for older people

Mouth care for people living with dementia In this last week of the course we look at mouth care for people living with dementia and other conditions.

We are again privileged to have access to another ‘kitchen table’ conversation. This dedicated team provide residential care for people with advanced dementia.

We have much to learn from the years of experience that they share with us. For those of us who care for people with dementia each day, we can reflect on the discussions and what we learn that will improve some aspects of the care we already provide.

We will consider the specific challenges we face when delivering mouthcare for people with dementia, for those who have had a stroke and for those who are generally resistant to our efforts to deliver care, for whatever reason.

We will also learn about providing mouth care for people having treatment for cancer, about mouth care during maternity and about mouth care at the end of life.

This week will draw together much of what we have learned in the Mouth Care Matters course so far.

We will end the course by reconsidering how confident you now are, at giving mouth care.
