Radiation Safety
Module aims
To provide mandatory radiation safety information for all staff and make staff aware of where medical radiation can be used throughout the Trust
In the Trust, radiation can be generated or emitted:
- By X-ray units
- By linear accelerators or radioactive sources in Radiotherapy
- From patients who have undergone diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures (e.g. patients returning to wards from Nuclear Medicine or patients undergoing sentinel node procedures in Theatres)
- From Radioiodine patients on Yeo ward or in Medical Physics
Additionally, although it is not a mandatory requirement, Public Health England are trying to improve public awareness of naturally occurring radon gas. Parts of the South West are in elevated radon areas. This module provides a link to where more information can be found.
