Post-operative neck haematomas are life threatening. Many will require immediate bedside management.
This teaching aims to increase clinical staff awareness of post-operative neck haematomas and the consequences. We hope it will also increase the number of clinical staff who feel confident to manage a neck haematoma at the beside. This will ultimately improve patient safety and prevent avoidable deaths.
The teaching will guide you through neck haematomas and consequences via a case study, then show you to the hospital protocol for recognising and managing a neck haematoma with the SCOOP algorithm. It will also introduce you to the yellow post-op neck box, which contains the kit needed to manage a post-operative neck haematoma.
After viewing this presentation, please complete the test questions to check your knowledge.
