LOTUS - A compassionate leadership toolkit for those involved in managing professional standards concerns
Compassionate leadership is the most powerful way in which we can nurture the health and wellbeing of our staff while upholding professional standards. The greatest challenge for most leaders is doing hard things in a human way. Compassionate leadership paves the way for leading effectively and working together compassionately and inclusively.
With a Foreword by ProfessorMichael West, the LOTUS Compassionate Leadership Framework and Toolkitcomplements the NHS England Policy on Managing the NHS Performers Lists (England) as well as guidance from professional regulatory bodies and NHS Resolution. While the policies and guidelines focus on the regulatory and governance aspects, this framework, together with the toolkit, focuses on holistic, compassionate, human approaches.
Developed by the Professional Standards and System Improvement Team in NHS England North West Region, the toolkit provides an interactive resource within a modular approach that can support many of the challenges we have when managing professional concerns. The LOTUS approach has been successfully launched across the north west with a pilot that invludes a number of secondary care organisations taking part. The learning from this pilot will be presented at a summit to be held in June 2025.
