LSCIN Neurogenic bowel guidelines for adults 2025

To support non-SCI centres with provision of adult bowel care to enable improved outcomes for patients awaiting admission to an SCI centre or stepdown post rehabilitation. This will also support patients with SCI who are admitted to hospital for reasons unrelated to SCI.

The guidelineswill provide guidance on managing neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) in adult patients with spinal cord injuries (SCI) or neurological conditions, focusing on enhancing patient dignity, independence, and bowel health. It will cover assessment, interventions, and the development of individualised bowel management plans.
