In this 6-weeks course, you’ll learn how to improve safety, prevent complications, and be prepared to manage difficulties. This course presents details of techniques that can be applied to a number of settings: the anaesthetic room, intensive care, the emergency department and in the pre-hospital arena. The multimedia educational materials comprise videos, articles, quizzes and through the discussion platforms, you will have the opportunity to engage with expert faculty and colleagues from around the globe.

Understand airway safety

On this course, we’ll discuss the meaning of safe airway management. You’ll learn how to assess an airway and what kinds of equipment you’ll be using in elective and emergency airway management. In difficult or stressful situations, guidelines and cognitive aids can help with decision-making and human factors, so we’ll take a look at some examples in the hospital and pre-hospital setting.

Patient-centred Multidisciplinary Teamwork

It’s important to involve our patients in decision-making. We’ll learn how to ensure clear communication and develop a safe strategy for more complex cases.

Explore airway management in specific scenarios

Airway management differs between children and adults and factors such as pregnancy and obesity or having a tracheostomy can affect management. You will also explore different practices from around the globe, from high resource to low resource settings.

Pre-Hospital Airway Management

Airway management in the pre-hospital setting presents its own challenges. A team of doctors and paramedics from the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex will take us through governance, safety aspects and demonstrations of pre-hospital airway management techniques.
