Observation of Teaching (OoT)
The Observation of Teaching (OoT) is a structured assessment tool used to evaluate a practitioner’s ability to deliver effective teaching in a healthcare setting. It involves direct observation of a teaching session, during which an assessor evaluates the educator’s ability to engage learners, communicate complex concepts, facilitate discussion, and adapt teaching strategies to different audiences.
The purpose of an OoT is to enhance the quality of teaching in practice by providing constructive feedback on teaching methods, presentation skills, and learner engagement. It supports the development of healthcare professionals as educators, ensuring that they can effectively train and mentor others. OoTs are widely used in advanced practice training, faculty development, and professional credentialing to promote excellence in clinical education.
