Interpreting Lipid Results
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide accounting for almost 18 million deaths each year - over 30% of all global deaths.*
In the UK, CVD accounts for around 25% of all deaths, with one death every 3 minutes.* Up to 60% of adults are affected by CVD in England. Cholesterol is thought to be the second most significant medical risk factor after hypertension (high blood pressure).
Cholesterol was highlighted for the first time in a decade in the NHS Long Term Plan. This emphasisesthe importance of ensuring everyone at risk is offered effective treatment to lower cholesterol. It is also vital to identify those with higher or abnormal levels of cholesterol, explore the reasons for this and educate on how to lower it to reduce the risk of CVD.
This course will look at this in more detail and explore how healthcare professionals can identify when lifestyle changes, treatment or specialist services may be required.
