Boundaries within Autism Peer Support Worker Roles
A training video that can be used to train Autism Peer Support Workers, explaining the importance of setting and recognising boundaries withinpeer support roles. Setting boundaries is explored, how to recognise boundary violations and the increased challenge when individuals experience alexithymia. Alexithymia, is a personality trait characterised by the inability to identify and describe emotions experienced by oneself. Intense feelings that are not recognised by the individual, whether through understanding, language and/or recognition of emotions is challenging, along with processing more than one emotion at a time. Individuals who are socially anxious may needtime alone to process emotions and that can impact on boundary setting. Confidentiality is also explored, alongside the need for safeguarding.
