It also introduces the candidate to problems and risks associated with providing a safe and effective medicines service. On completion of this workbook, the candidate will have a basic understanding of and be able to discuss the varied role of medicines optimisation staff and how they work with patients and multidisciplinary teams to provide a safe medicines service.

There are a number of tasks and activities which highlight the medicines optimisation role and can be completed whilst working in the various areas considered necessary for their role in supporting the management of medicines. The tasks focus on observations of real situations, assessment of risks and benefits and topics for discussion.
