End of Life Care and Advance Care Planning for People with Dementia: A Pilot Simulation Course for Healthcare Professionals (Chu et al., 2022)
Aims: To assess the effectiveness of a simulation-based education (SBE) course in enhancing end-of-life (EOL) skills and Advanced Care Planning (ACP) among healthcare professionals providing care to patients with dementia
Method: 21 participants were involved in the SBE, which incorporates scenarios involving interprofessional collaboration.
Findings: Participants exhibited significant increase in human factors knowledge, skills, and confidence in the post-training assessment.
Contributions: The study highlighted the value of dementia care SBE for training professionals in ACP and EOL care through emphasizing interprofessional communication. It also underscores the significance of human factors skills, ultimately enhancing patient care in the terminal phase.
