This learning resource focuses on a case of ametropic amblyopia.

The Learning resource is intendedto help the learner meet the following standards of proficiency as outlined by the HCPC:

  • make reasoned decisions to initiate, continue, modify or cease treatment, or the use of techniques or procedures, and record the decisions and reasoning appropriately

  • know the principles governing visual function and the development of vision, and be able to apply them to clinical practice

  • understand refractive error and its effect on ocular alignment, visual perception and visual development

  • know about the range of ophthalmic conditions which can disrupt vision, binocular vision and produce eye movement disorders

  • understand the principles and techniques used in electrophysiological assessment of visual function and the visual pathway

  • understand the principles and techniques of, and be able to perform, an objective and subjective refraction
