Background
Paediatric Palliative Care supports children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and their families, from the point of diagnosis.It is a growing subspecialty, with approximately 89,000 children in the UK living in 2024, up from 32,000 in 2011.
However, there are only 24.4 WTE specialist consultants in the UK1, with none currently working in the East Midlands. This means
that palliative care is delivered by general paediatricians, who may lack expertise and confidence....
The Future
It was important to ensure this education continues after my fellowship completes. With increasing numbers of patients with palliative care needs, general paediatricians will need the expertise and confidence to provide high-quality care.....
