This elearning session is designed for healthcare professionals involved in intravenous therapy and vascular access device (VAD) management. It explores the risks and complications associated with VADs including phlebitis, catheter-related bloodstream infections, infiltration, extravasation, allergy, anaphylaxis, air embolism, catheter migration, occlusion and thrombosis. Learners will be able to describe clinical signs, assess risk, apply prevention strategies and take appropriate action in response to complications, with consideration for variations in skin tone and patient vulnerability.
