Intercultural Awareness Guide for midwives, health visitors and school nurses working with children, young people and families seeking asylum or with refugee status
The practical guide developed by Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex and Nafisyat supports self-reflection and continued learning. It covers:
- Core concepts of intercultural awareness, including intersectionality, cultural competence and micro-incivilities
- Practical steps for embedding intercultural awareness at both individual and organisational level
- Reflective prompts and real‑world considerations for supporting children and families seeking asylum or with refugee status
It complements the CPD-accredited online Intercultural Awareness course.
This was funded by NHS England and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (South East), and builds upon the previously publishedCore Intercultural Concepts and Principles Toolkitand the successful in-person training delivered across the South East.
