Mouth Care Matters

Looking after someone else's mouth: Instruction

5 out of 5 (1 rating)

Caring for someone else can be a very personal and often intimate matter and relies on mutual trust and respect. Delivering mouth care is typical of this. When the person we are caring for accepts what we are doing, we can make a real difference to their health and wellbeing.
In this week’s course, we meet a number of compliant people, in the setting where they are receiving mouthcare from someone else, who knows them professionally or personally.

We will see how they learn and use their skills to deliver effective mouth care and witness the trust and respect that exists in each of these relationships. It is useful to watch for and listen to the small but important details of how these professionals deliver mouth care.
In addition, this week we take a close look at dentures. Wearing false teeth is no longer as common and we know that many younger people have very little, if any experience of caring for people who rely on dentures. We will learn about wearing dentures, keeping them clean and also marking dentures to help with identification, if ever they are misplaced.
