Assessing Medicines Support Needs in Adult Social Care

banner image

This elearning programme guides social care professionals in assessing a person's medicines support needs as part of an overall assessment of needs under the Care Act (2014) and preferences for social care. Learners will explore how to identify when support is required, support self-management including with reasonable adjustments, and develop person-centred care plans that reflect legal and professional responsibilities under the Care Act (2014) and NICE guidance.

Learners are guided through case studies highlighting a range of situations they may encounter when undertaking a medicines support needs assessment. These include various considerations and worked examples on how they may be addressed.

The programme supports those involved in adult social care assessments and care planning, to make safe, person-centred decisions and to recognise when to escalate concerns or seek clinical advice. It covers referral processes, risk management, and appropriate assignment of medicines administration.
