Inclusive end of life care

Introduction

In many of the sections above on care for marginalised populations, we have focused on how to support someone at the end of their life. In this part of the course, we bring together a summary of the principles and resources available to you.

Principles

In the excellent document  'Care committed to all', a group of organisations came together to outline an approach to commissioning and providing care to people from disadvantaged groups. From this work, some principles emerged:

1.  Good communication, which includes engaging with people in a way that is meaningful for the individual and so enables people to make informed decisions about their care.

2. An approach founded on dignity and respect, and investing in a relationship of trust.

3. The provision of workforce training and support (hello this course!)

4. Enabling partnership working at a strategic level.

5.  Recognising that people are all different so inclusive, equitable care is not about treating everybody the same way.

Resources

The next lesson has a collection of resources that will enable you to provide inclusive end of life care. You can your own resource to this as well.
