Escape-Pain
ESCAPE-pain is an evidence-based and cost-effective group rehabilitation programme for people with chronic joint pain. Designed to increase physical function and improve quality of life, the programme integrates education, self-management and coping strategies, with a personalised exercise regimen for each participant.
There are two ESCAPE-pain programmes designed to support people living with chronic knee and hip pain, and people living with chronic back pain. The research, evidence and endorsements for each programme can be found on the ESCAPE-pain website.
The flexibility of the ESCAPE-pain programme means it can be delivered in a variety of locations and by a range of professionals. The programmes have been successfully delivered in outpatient physiotherapy departments, leisure centres and local community settings by physiotherapists, osteopaths and exercise professionals.
About this resource
We’ve developed two short e-learning modules to support understanding and implementation of the ESCAPE-pain programme.
The first session is designed for anyone interested in learning more about ESCAPE-pain - what it is, how it works, and who it’s for.
The second session offers a more in-depth look for professionals considering delivering the programme. It explores key considerations, delivery models, and the next steps for implementation.
Each session takes approximately 20–30 minutes to complete and aims to enhance understanding of the programme’s structure, principles, and practical requirements for delivery.
