Inclusive training within practice for healthcare learners and international staff

Implicit Bias Training

Implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that unconsciously influence our understanding, actions, and decisions. These biases are automatic, unintentional, and can occur without awareness, shaped by our background, cultural environment, and personal experiences.

Participants will learn to identify their own implicit biases and explore practical strategies to mitigate their impact in both personal and professional settings, fostering more conscious and equitable decision-making processes.

This learning programme is structured into three parts to scaffold learning. All three parts must be completed to gain the full benefit of the experience.

  • Part 1 – Interactive e-learning course (includes two modules with additional reading).
  • Part 2 – Reflection workbook (to be completed over time).
  • Part 3 – Trainer-led session (1.5-hour session; see the trainer-led session folder for further details).

The programme incorporates the Inclusive Training within Practice Project’s two golden threads and three key themes:

Golden Threads: 1) Critical Race Theory 2) Avoiding the Deficit Model

Key Themes: 1) Racial Literacy 2) Power Dynamics 3) Reflective and Reflexive Practice

This programme has been developed by Mokita Training for the Inclusive Training within Practice Project with insights and feedback from healthcare placement providers, education providers, learners and staff from across the South West.
