Bliss FICare resources

Welcome to the Bliss section of the NHS Learning Hub.

We are pleased to bring you resources to support your understanding of Family Integrated Care (FICare), in particular building partnership with parents and carers. Our exploration of FICare delivery is always considered within the lens of health inequalities and how these might shape the experiences of babies and their families.

Our aim is that the professionals using our resources will be inspired to make improvements to the delivery of FICare on neonatal units in the UK and therefore, improve outcomes for babies and their families.

Who are Bliss?

Bliss is a national charity. Our vision is that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life.

Bliss champions the right of every baby born premature or sick to excellent neonatal care, experience and outcomes. We achieve this by improving care, giving voice to babies, and supporting parents to be partners in care.

What is in this catalogue?

We have compiled a catalogue of resources that support delivery of FICare, including written documents and video content.

The resources cover a wide range of topics within the FICare ethos including emotional wellbeing, practical barriers such as finance and accommodation as well as spaces to unpick the impact of health inequalities within neonatal services.

With greater understanding of these barriers and practical tips for making improvements, FICare delivery is more likely to be successful and equitable, impacting every baby.

Who are these resources for?

We have designed these resources for any health professional that works within neonatal services. This includes the wider MDT on units, as well as those working in non-clinical roles such as in ODNs or regional networks. The learnings shared are relevant to staff on any level of unit within the UK.

These resources are not designed as clinical education but as complementary resources to support equitable FICare delivery in neonatal units.

How we create our resources?

Central to all our learning content is the parent voice. Hearing directly from parents about their experience is not only impactful but vital for identifying opportunities to improve care and build stronger partnerships with them.

We continue to build our relationships with community groups and partner organisations who also give unique insights and perspectives to our content.

In these resources, we develop these insights from parents and partners, and add to them with real examples of innovation, good practice and quality improvement to learn from.

We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to this catalogue.

Bliss information for parents is also PIF accredited and is thoroughly reviewed with experts in their field.
