Placement utilisation assessment tool
The placement utilisation tool is an Excel spreadsheet designed to help you to understand what services and staff are available within your organisation to support placements and practice-based learning.
Why use the tool?
When planning practice-based learning, you should look at the full range of resources available to help learners meet the outcomes set by their programmes of study – for example, pre-registration programmes, apprenticeships or T-levels.
The tool is designed to help you record:

the services your organisation provides

the hours each service is available during the working week

the staffing establishment and skill mix in each service
It then gives you a clear picture of how well your placement capacity is being used –highlighting areas that may be underused and where good practice is already in place.
The tool doesn’t provide definitive figures. It uses data models and broad criteria to highlight the trends and doesn’t offer individual-level detail.
