Patients online access to GP health records

Since November 2023, adult patients in England have had online access to all new information added to their electronic primary care record via services such as the NHS App. Better access to health information enables patients to become partners in managing their health. There is good evidence that patient access to records confers numerous benefits for patients, carers and healthcare professionals. There are already a number of resources available to support primary care staff with patient records access, including this suite of 6 films to familiarise general practice staff with record access systems, build confidence and embed staff training.

In the coming months, we will release additional elearning materials to help staff consolidate their knowledge on this topic, build their confidence and consider some scenarios that they may encounter when patients access their primary care records online.
