Our Time, supporting young people living with parental mental illness
Our Time was established in 2000 to offer support to families with parental mental illness, based on 10 years of developing the approach and the tools to meeting the needs of the children and young people.
Over 2.9 million young people in the UK live with or care for a parent with a mental illness. The impact on them is significant and lifelong unless they get the right support before they themselves experience mental health problems. The majority of these young people suffer in silence because of the stigma and fear of bullying, with little to no support or understanding.
These resources will help professionals to understand this hidden but vulnerable group, giving them the confidence to address the issue and the skills to support them.
As well as providing a nationwide programme of ‘KidsTime workshops', Our Time also works in schools, providing vital training for staff and whole school support systems for young people affected by this issue.
In addition, we work with the NHS, families, professionals, local authorities, research bodies and many other charities to tackle the issue of parental mental illness.
