The Post COVID Services Training Programme consists of a series of elearning sessions designed to enhance healthcare professionals’ understanding and clinical management of long COVID. The programme supports the delivery of high-quality, consistent care for adults accessing post COVID services across the NHS.

Who the programme is for

This training is aimed primarily at healthcare professionals working within specialist post COVID services, including nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physicians and wider multidisciplinary team members. An additional module is available for mental health nurses and mental health practitioners who support people living with long COVID.

What the programme covers

The programme’s sessions explore key areas of post COVID care, including:

  • Introduction to post COVID care and post COVID-19 syndrome
  • First patient assessment and clinical considerations
  • Treatable traits and differential diagnosis
  • Physical and mental health rehabilitation
  • Digital rehabilitation services and discharge planning
  • Integrated working across post COVID pathways
  • Delivering personalised care
  • New: Working with long COVID in people with severe mental illness
  • Recordings of four complementary live training sessions are also available on the FutureNHS platform.

Learning objectives

Across the programme, learners will:

  • Gain an up-to-date understanding of long COVID and its biopsychosocial nature
  • Improve confidence in assessing and managing people with suspected post COVID-19 syndrome
  • Develop skills for applying a treatable-traits approach and recognising differential diagnoses
  • Understand rehabilitation principles across physical, psychological and digital domains
  • Strengthen capability in integrated and personalised care planning
  • Enhance knowledge-sharing across post COVID services to reduce variation and improve patient experience and outcomes
  • For mental health practitioners: understand long COVID in the context of severe mental illness and explore appropriate interventions to support patients and families

An introductory long COVID elearning programme is also available for healthcare professionals who do not work within specialist post COVID services.
