Reasonable Adjustments in Cancer Care
The Equality Act 2010 mandates that health and social care organisations take steps to remove barriers individuals face because of disability. This eLearning module introduces reasonable adjustments in cancer care: what they are, why they are important, and how they can be applied in practice.
Co-designed with people who have received cancer care in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG), the module draws on insights from focus groups involving 45 patients and carers. Their experiences help highlight how reasonable adjustments can significantly improve the quality and equity of cancer care. (See Appendices 1 for direct quotes taken from the focus groups).
This training supports a shift from equal to equitable care ensuring all patients receive support in a way that meets their specific needs.
Aims:
By the end of this eLearning, you will be able to:
- Explain the legal requirements for making reasonable adjustments in health and social care, as mandated by the Equality Act 2010.
- Describe how to make reasonable adjustments to support individuals with long term conditions and cancer.
- Identify, record, and flag a person’s need for reasonable adjustments, ensuring these are part of their care.
All staff are encouraged to complete this eLearning.
