Basic Phlebotomy
By the end of the course participants will be able to: Know how to reassure individuals prior to, during and after blood collection. Recognise infection control and risk measures appropriate to the procedure. Explain what factors to consider in choosing the most appropriate site. Describe, discuss and demonstrate the correct techniques for taking blood samples, summarising problems and how to overcome them, including the procedure to follow when a specimen is not obtained. Understand the importance of accurate and concise documentation. Understand the legal and professional responsibilities in relation to 'Code of Professional Conduct NMC 2002'
