Embracing Neurodiversity in our Healthcare Educators
Extract from the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME):
"Neurodiverse individuals are found in many areas of medicine, as well as in our next generation of doctors in training. Such individuals bring the lived experience and an understanding and empathy to neurodiverse patients. By sharing strengths including focus, attention to detail and pattern recognition; all traits that are valuable in medicine and recognised as such in many other work environments. The medical profession is still working to increase representation for many aspects of diversity within the profession, including race, gender, and socioeconomic circumstances. We should be mindful that the same should be true of diverse minds."
