Learning outcomes:

Understand the Mechanisms of NIHL:

Trainees will be able to describe the anatomy and physiology of the ear, explain how noise exposure leads to hearing loss, and differentiate between short-term and long-term effects of noise on hearing.

Critically Evaluate Hearing Health Surveillance Methods:

Trainees will be able to assess the strengths and limitations of current hearing tests like surveillance audiometry, and explore alternative tests such as Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) and Speech-in-Noise (SIN) tests for comprehensive hearing assessment.

Apply Knowledge of NIHL to Occupational Health Practice:

Trainees will be able to discuss the implications of legal cases like Goldscheider vs. Royal Opera House on occupational health policies and identify key risk factors and strategies to optimize hearing conservation programs in various work environments
