The Current and Future Management of Atopic Dermatitis
The Current and Future Management of Atopic Dermatitis programme consists of one elearning session. It supports healthcare professionals who care for people with atopic dermatitis in primary and secondary care. The session gives an overview of what the condition is, how it affects the body, and how it can be managed using current and emerging treatments.
Intended audience
This module is for all staff involved in the care of people with atopic dermatitis, including those working in GP practices, community services and hospital settings.
Key areas covered
Learners will explore:
- What happens inside the body during atopic dermatitis, shown through simple animations
- Risk factors, including family history and environmental triggers
- How the condition appears on different body sites and different skin colours
- The emotional and social impact of living with atopic dermatitis, with insight from two patient interviews
- Current treatments, how they work and their benefits and risks
- New and future treatments, including Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors and Interleukin-4/Interleukin-13 inhibitors

- Link treatments to the proposed pathways involved in the condition
- Describe the main processes involved in the development of atopic dermatitis
- Recognise the different ways the condition can appear depending on body site and skin colour
